Overview

Caribbean Cinemas is Puerto Rico's leading movie theater chain. In 2017, Blimp asked me to design its new mobile app.

The old app had a bad reputation. When I used it myself, it was buggy and crashed often. Research wasn't part of the brief, so I gathered feedback on my own, from social media and app store reviews. Users said the same thing.

The new app had to win back their trust.

The flow

From finding a film to walking in without a line, in four steps.

Now Showing screen with movie posters, plus Coming Soon and Fine Arts tabs.
1 · Browse what's playing, what's coming, and fine arts.
Movie screen with a date picker, theater selector, and showtimes.
2 · Pick a date, theater, and showtime on one screen.
Seat map with available, selected, and unavailable seats.
3 · Choose seats on a clear map with a legend.
Digital ticket with a QR code and a manual entry code.
4 · Scan the QR code at the door. No line.

How it came together

Wireframes of the booking flow in order: browse, movie, showtime, tickets, seats, review, payment, and ticket.
Every step mapped first. The client approved a concept for each screen before wireframes.
Four wireframes, for choosing seats, reviewing tickets, paying, and the ticket, each above its final screen.
The wireframes set the structure, and the final UI added the brand.

Launched on iOS and Android in 2017. Reviews of the new design were positive.
